Two DeKalb County residents were killed in a street sweeper accident in Birmingham

A DeKalb County man and woman were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on a Birmingham region interstate involving a street sweeper.

According to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office, a man and woman from Rainsville died in the Tuesday night crash.

Officials in Jefferson County are working to notify the victim’s next of kin.

According to the Rocky Ridge Fire Department, several additional people were hurt in the crash. People were stuck in the incident, which necessitated multiple extrications.

According to the fire department, the incident occurred on freeway 459 around mile marker 18 in Jefferson County, closing down the southbound side of the highway.
