Shooting, killing mother of two children, and burying body in trunk gets 22 years in prison

The individual responsible for the tragic death of Destini Smothers, Kareem Flake, has been sentenced. A photograph of Flake’s mugshot provided by the NYPD via New York’s WCBS-TV/YouTube, along with a photo of Smothers from a GofundMe page and a towed car photo from the Queens County District Attorney, were used in the report.

According to a recent news release from the Queens County District Attorney’s Office, Kareem Flake, a 31-year-old man, has been sentenced for pleading guilty to manslaughter in the first degree in the killing of Destini Smothers. The incident had taken place earlier, and after serving his sentence, Flake will have five years of post-release supervision.

According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, the actions of this man were exceptionally wicked, causing Destini Smothers’ family to suffer for months, not knowing her whereabouts.     According to reports, Smothers went missing a few days after she was last seen in the company of Flake, after celebrating her birthday in Queens, New York, on November 3, 2020.

    Four months after her disappearance, on March 10, 2021, Flake’s remains were found by a tow truck operator who stumbled upon her abandoned Toyota Camry with a flat tire.
