Police report one fatality and another in critical condition after shooting in Kansas City on Thursday evening

Police reported that there was a shooting incident in Kansas City’s Mount Hope neighborhood on Thursday evening, which resulted in one person being killed and another being critically wounded.

Captain Corey Carlisle, a spokesperson for the department, reported that at approximately 7 p.m., law enforcement received a call regarding gunshots being fired near the intersection of East 31st Street and Woodland Avenue. Officers in the area swiftly responded to the call and discovered a vehicle containing a man who had sustained gunshot wounds.

While administering medical assistance to a man, someone alerted Carlisle and his team to another gunshot victim lying on the ground on 31st Street. The police identified the second victim as a male who was unfortunately declared dead at the scene.

According to Carlisle, the detectives were investigating the details of the shooting incident, as the circumstances leading up to it were uncertain at the time.

According to Carlisle, there weren’t any suspects in custody as of Thursday night. However, the police didn’t have any indication that the public was in immediate danger.

A significant police presence was called to the scene of the shooting, which occurred just a few blocks east of Troost Park. 31st Street between Wayne and Michigan avenues was blocked off to vehicles on Thursday night.

According to data maintained by The Star, the killing on Thursday was the third this week in Kansas City. The city has witnessed a total of 152 homicides in 2023.
