Police say the bodies of two missing Emporia women were discovered in rural eastern Colorado on Wednesday.
According to the Emporia Police Department, the bodies of Linda Estrada, 44, and Amy Ford, 39, were discovered after a 10-day investigation after the two were reported missing on September 11. Linda and Amy were revealed to have been together in Colorado the prior weekend, according to police.
The EPD Investigations Division used cell phone technology, surveillance videos, and “solid police work” to monitor Linda and Amy’s activities through Colorado, according to a release from the department.
Authorities in Colorado searched for the women’s remains for five days, using K9s, planes, drones, and ground searches.
According to the EPD, a person of interest in the case is now in detention on charges unrelated to this investigation. The individual’s identity has not been revealed.
The inquiry has been passed over to the Colorado Bureau of inquiry and an eastern Colorado Sheriff’s Office.
“While Linda and Amy’s deaths were not the desired outcome, the men and women of the Emporia Police Department extend our condolences to their families and want you to know how many people cared about finding them,” the department said.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help support Linda Estrada’s four children. If you would like to donate click here.
