According to police reports, a 27-year-old man from Delaware stands accused of kidnapping an 11-year-old girl who went missing in New Jersey. The accused had allegedly communicated with the girl on the online game Roblox prior to her disappearance.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, the Passaic County girl who vanished twice this year after conversing with the same Roblox user told authorities that she left New Jersey with the man on September 10th as a result of her challenging home life. She willingly left, according to the report.
According to court documents obtained by NJ Advance Media on Tuesday, the girl had gone missing once before in June but thankfully returned to her mother unharmed shortly after.
Bear, Delaware resident, Darius Matylewich, is facing charges of first-degree kidnapping and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. As of now, there is no attorney listed for him in online records.
On September 10th, around 6:45 am, the Wayne police department received a report regarding the disappearance of a young girl from a hotel located in the vicinity of Route 46 and Old Turnpike Road. The girl resided in the hotel with her mother.
According to court documents, authorities discovered that the missing girl was using Roblox, a gaming social media platform, and had engaged in recent conversations with another user who went by the same username connected to her disappearance back in June.
According to authorities, the Roblox username was traced back to Matylewich by the Wayne police.
Officials contacted Matylewich via phone and he admitted to communicating with the young girl. Matylewich also disclosed to authorities that he had traveled to New Jersey to collect the girl from her hotel and drove her to Delaware.
According to the affidavit, Matylewich and the girl were discovered together on September 10.
Upon discovering the girl, the authorities reported that she seemed to be in good physical condition and was promptly placed under protective custody.
According to the police, the young girl informed the authorities that Matylewich knew she was only 11 years old and that he was 27 years old.
Last week, Matylewich was extradited to New Jersey and is currently being held in the Passaic County Jail.
