A man has been charged with over a dozen criminal charges for allegedly robbing a number of Asian spas in Indianapolis.
According to court documents, Roy King, aged 42, is currently facing charges for 17 counts of criminal offenses including armed robbery, criminal confinement, kidnapping, and weapons charges.
According to court records, the utilization of technology played a crucial role in aiding the police to solve the case.
In the middle of September, a man was caught on surveillance video robbing the Sunshine Spa located on Post Road.
The thief, wielding a weapon, terrorized the employees before proceeding to empty multiple bags on the floor. He swiftly grabbed some cash and fled the scene.
According to the police, it is suspected that the perpetrator who committed the robbery at the Angel Spa on the north side of Indianapolis, also carried out a similar crime at the Rosemary Spa situated on the south side of the city.
By utilizing license plate readers, law enforcement officers were able to locate a minivan that fled from the three incidents.
King, who was identified as the owner of the van, was put under surveillance by IMPD’s covert robbery unit. According to their claims, King attempted to rob the N Spa on the east side earlier this month. He was arrested on the same day as a result of their investigation.
IMPD Lt. Shane Foley mentioned that the law enforcement officers are utilizing multiple technologies on a daily basis to identify and apprehend the individuals accountable for criminal activities.
According to IMPD, the use of license plate readers is proving to be highly effective in solving crimes more efficiently and enhancing public safety.
According to Foley, the ultimate objective is to pinpoint the individuals who are accountable for any criminal activity and ensure that they are taken off the streets. This way, the safety of everyone in the community can be guaranteed.
At present, there are over 320 readers in different parts of the city under IMPD’s surveillance. The organization has laid out plans to increase this number by 150 readers in the coming year.
According to court records, King confessed to committing the offenses, but also revealed that he got rid of the clothes he wore during the robberies and sold his handgun because he believed law enforcement was tailing him. He did these things before eventually being apprehended.
After appearing in court last week, the defendant is currently being held on a $150,000 surety bond and a $2,000 cash bond.
