In recent news, the Marion County Jail in Tennessee received a failing grade from state health inspectors during their inspection on July 18th.
The inspection report indicated that the jail failed to meet all applicable minimum standards due to a total of 10 deficient items found. The report revealed that several issues were found for female inmates, including inadequate square footage, toilet and sink ratios, and shower ratios.
Inspectors also discovered “black growth” near the shower and toilet area, along with other necessary repairs needed. Furthermore, medical services were also found to have three deficiencies, including day health assessments and the medication receipt system.
The facility disciplinary board was also reported to be below standard. On the other hand, inspectors did not find any problems in several categories such as mail and visiting, inmate programs and activities, admission records and release, hygiene, and supervision of inmates.
We have contacted Marion County Sheriff Bo Burnette for his comments on the matter, and we will update this story when we receive a response.
UPDATE: According to a text message from Sheriff Burnette, he is currently out of the office and will be able to comment on the matter by Wednesday.
