Brooklyn, New York – Toquanna’s unwavering love and determination were put to the ultimate test when her daughter, TiJae, a 23-year-old art student, went missing in May. For almost two months, Toquanna was consumed with worry and fear as she searched tirelessly for her beloved daughter. In June of 2022, I covered the story of this harrowing ordeal, which ended in a heroic rescue by Toquanna, who was able to bring TiJae home safe and sound.
On May 1st, TiJae informed her mother about her trip to Washington, D.C. Her purpose was to create posters for someone she had met on Instagram. She left Brooklyn by bus, but her phone was turned off during the journey, causing her mother to worry. When TiJae did not return home as planned the next day, and with no activity on her social media accounts, her family became very concerned.
At first, the authorities didn’t want to classify Toquanna’s daughter as missing since she was an adult and presumed to be a runaway. However, Toquanna knew something wasn’t right. Her daughter wouldn’t just vanish without a trace. She trusted her maternal instincts and took action. It wasn’t long before her worst fears were confirmed, and she was left with a feeling of dread.
TiJae had been missing for a month when Toquanna received a phone call on June 1st that sent chills down her spine. It was TiJae’s voice, barely audible, pleading for help. Toquanna immediately sprang into action, using phone records to locate the call to a nail salon in Maryland. Despite arriving too late to find TiJae there, CCTV footage confirmed that she had been there, giving Toquanna renewed determination to locate her friend.
Filled with determination, Toquanna tirelessly combed through Prince George County, the last known location of her daughter, distributing missing posters in the hopes of generating leads. Her unwavering efforts paid off when on June 24th, a series of valuable tips from local individuals – a store owner, a security guard, and a bus driver who had seen TiJae – led to a miraculous reunion. Thanks to her relentless spirit, TiJae was found alive and safe.
TiJae has finally returned home safe and sound and is now surrounded by the love and care of her family. It’s been a long and difficult two months away from home, but she is slowly on the path to recovery. While she focuses on healing, the fight for justice continues as efforts are being made to hold the culprits responsible for their actions. With hope and determination, the perpetrators will soon be brought to justice.
At present, there haven’t been any arrests made yet, which has left the community yearning for justice. However, they are also applauding the unwavering determination and love of a mother for her child.
