At 9:50 p.m. on August 27th, the caretakers at Fish Creek Campground contacted Ray Brook Dispatch to alert them of two campers who had yet to return and were not properly prepared with headlamps, food, or water.
As they traversed the Otter Hollow trail from Square Pond, Forest Rangers Curcio, and O’Connor received a report from a diligent campground employee who had flagged them down. According to the employee, there were voices emanating from the other side of Whey Pond, prompting the rangers to explore the area further.
