Man pushing woman in wheelchair struck while crossing street in Sylmar, resulting in 2 fatalities

On Thursday night, a devastating accident occurred in the San Fernando Valley.

On Thursday evening, tragedy struck in Sylmar as two individuals lost their lives while crossing the street. The incident occurred at around 7:40 p.m. near the intersection of Astoria Street and Foothill Boulevard. SkyFOX captured the scene from above.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a man was assisting a woman in a wheelchair when they were struck by a vehicle traveling east on Foothill Boulevard.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, Paul Sanchez, 38, was identified as the man who died at the scene. He was 40 years old at the time of his passing, and his city of residence is currently unknown.

After being rushed to a hospital, the woman unfortunately passed away. In order to properly inform her loved ones, her name has not yet been released.

According to law enforcement officials, the individuals who were hit were not walking within a marked crosswalk at the time of the incident. The driver involved remained present at the location of the collision.

As of now, there have not been any arrests made in regard to the situation.

The inquiry is still in progress.
