Man from Kansas City pleads guilty in connection with 2022 deadly shooting

A young man from Kansas City, aged 20, has recently admitted to his involvement in the fatal shooting of Shariff Tilghman in February of 2022.

In relation to the homicide, Isaiah Thomas entered a plea of guilty on Monday at the Jackson County Circuit Court for voluntary manslaughter.

Thomas was initially charged with second-degree murder by the Jackson County prosecutors. However, as part of the plea agreement, all the other charges against him were dismissed by the prosecutor’s office.

On February 2, 2022, at around 9:30 p.m., Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers were called to the scene of a shooting located in the vicinity of 17th Street and Crystal Avenue. The incident was reported, and the officers immediately responded to investigate the matter. The details of the shooting are currently under investigation. According to the latest reports, the victim was found shot dead inside a vehicle. The KCPD is actively investigating the incident to gain more information and identify any suspects involved.

As they approached the vehicle, they noticed a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a black Nissan Maxima with a Kansas license plate. The car was already running, indicating that he had been waiting for someone or something.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, it was discovered that it had been reported as stolen from Junction City, Kansas.

According to the video surveillance, a man was seen leaving the car and standing in the area where shell casings were discovered. Subsequently, he was observed running away from the scene.

Upon inspection, it was discovered that the firearm found at the residence had been procured by a close acquaintance of Thomas.

Upon examining a face mask discovered on the floor of the passenger’s side of the vehicle, evidence strongly suggests that the suspect had deposited their DNA onto the mask.

After serving his time, Thomas was sentenced to a total of 13 years in prison. Fortunately, he received credit for the time he had already spent behind bars.
