According to an official obituary posted on his website, Jimmy Buffett’s cause of death has been revealed. The music icon passed away at the age of 76 in his New York home on Friday.
According to the obituary, Buffett passed away due to Merkel cell skin cancer, a disease he was diagnosed with four years ago.
The National Cancer Institute states that Merkel cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that is extremely uncommon and occurs when cancerous cells develop in the skin.
Despite undergoing cancer treatments, Buffett managed to keep performing his shows without fail. In fact, he surprised his fans with a last-minute concert in Rhode Island, even while receiving treatment.
The announcement of Buffett’s passing was made through a statement posted on social media last Saturday, as seen in this tweet.
According to the statement, Jimmy peacefully passed away on the night of September 1st while being surrounded by his loved ones, music, and furry companions.
