Over the course of three months, a gang of thieves raided numerous upscale homes in various New York City boroughs, making off with almost ten high-end vehicles. The brazen burglary spree affected over a dozen residences, leaving residents feeling violated and unsafe.
According to police reports, a series of car thefts took place in Queens and Brooklyn from June to August. The thieves targeted high-end vehicles such as Porsche, Mercedes, and Range Rover, amongst others. These vehicles were stolen from various driveways in the area.
As of Sunday night, they remained at large.
Working in groups of three or four, the gang’s primary focus was on homes within the affluent community of Whitestone. However, they also ventured out to Bayside, Jamaica Estates, Holliswood, Manhattan Beach and Bay Ridge to carry out their criminal activities.
In many cases, these burglars would strike in the early morning hours, taking advantage of the darkness and the fact that most homeowners were asleep at the time.
According to authorities, the group of robbers initiated their criminal activities on June 2 by targeting a residence located in the vicinity of Point Crescent. However, their plans were foiled as the homeowner intervened and thwarted their attempt to steal anything.
During the same month, the group of robbers attempted to break into two additional houses. However, they were unsuccessful in both attempts. The first time, they were interrupted by a vigilant homeowner who scared them off. The second time, a security alarm went off, causing the robbers to flee the scene without taking anything.
According to authorities, the duo’s luck changed on July 21 when they successfully burglarized a home located near 222nd Street and 41st Road in Queens at 1 a.m. They managed to steal multiple items, including an Audi SUV.
On the succeeding day, a group of four robbers took a BMW sedan from a residence located in close proximity to 291st Street and 38th Avenue in Queens.
According to the authorities, the thieves executed another heist the following day and made off with a Range Rover SUV and a Porsche from a residence near Cambridge Road and Somerset Street. The culprits struck again, this time taking jewelry, cash, clothes, and a Mercedes Benz from a property near Ridge Boulevard and 77th Street in Brooklyn.
According to authorities, the burglars managed to steal clothing as well as a Genesis sedan and a BMW SUV from other homes in July. However, they were forced to flee empty-handed from some homes due to the activation of the home alarm system.
The latest incident of burglary that they were involved in occurred on August 2nd.
According to police reports, a burglary took place at a residence in Brooklyn near Coleridge Street and Oriental Boulevard. The perpetrators, three in number, managed to enter the house and stole various items such as jewelry, clothing, a Mercedes Benz, and a BMW SUV.
The BMW sedan that was stolen, along with a Mercedes Benz sedan and a Genesis sedan, has been found by the police. However, the whereabouts of the other missing vehicles are still unknown.
According to the crime data released by the NYPD, although the rate of burglaries in New York City has decreased from last year, the incidents of car thefts have spiked significantly, showing a year-over-year increase of nearly 19%.
On Sunday, the police shared pictures of the suspected criminals involved in the carjacking incidents. The NYPD has urged individuals who possess any information regarding the ongoing carjacking series to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers.
