A person living in the Hudson Valley has been accused of vending recently caught fish.
The latest “Environmental Conservation Police on Patrol” report has been recently released by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Thursday.
Illegal Commercialization of Trout – Orange County
In Deerpark Town Court, a resident of Deerpark, New York entered a plea of not guilty to charges connected with the illegal commercialization of trout. The incident occurred last month.
According to a press release by the DEC, the arraignment was a result of a thorough investigation that lasted for months. The investigation was initiated after a tip-off that the accused was selling trout by the Neversink River in Orange County. The Environmental Conservation Officers (ECOs) confirmed the operation by visiting the individual’s social media page, where they found prices, details about fish preparation, and instructions on where and when to meet for purchases.
Illegal Fish Seller Caught in Orange County, New York Through Undercover Operation
According to the DEC, an undercover operation was arranged by investigators, where they bought vacuum-sealed bags of wild trout and freshly caught brook trout from the subject.
According to the DEC reports, after the undercover purchase, the police executed a search warrant at the residence of an undisclosed individual. During the operation, law enforcement officials confiscated approximately 40 pounds of trout with an estimated worth of $745.
According to the DEC, the sale of certain types of fish and meat is prohibited in New York State. Specifically, trout, Atlantic salmon, black bass, walleye, and muskellunge, as well as venison, cannot be sold legally.
