It was, to say the least, unexpected when Ivana Trump died on July 14, 2022. The 73-year-old died from “blunt impact injuries of the torso” following an unintentional fall in her Manhattan townhome, the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) reported to HollywoodLife on Friday, July 15, 2022. According to ABC correspondent Aaron Katersky, Donald Trump’s first wife was discovered unconscious at the bottom of a staircase in her New York City apartment, and an ambulance was rushed to her home for cardiac arrest.
Donald, Ivana’s ex-husband, paid tribute to her in a post on his Truth social media platform. “I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City,” the former President of the United States penned. “She was a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life. Her pride and joy were her three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric. She was so proud of them, as we were all so proud of her. Rest In Peace, Ivana!” in reference to their three children.
Ivana was born in Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic) in 1949, and she married Donald in 1977, a year after they met in New York City – her second marriage. From 1971 to 1973, she was married to her ex-husband Alfred Winklmayr. Following her marriage to Donald and relocation to New York, she had a variety of high-profile jobs in the Trump Organization, including CEO of Trump Castle in Atlantic City and manager of the renowned Plaza Hotel, which the firm purchased in 1988.
Only two years later, Donald and Ivana divorced, kicking off possibly the most legendary divorce in celebrity news history. The settlement took years and generated a flood of media attention. Ivana, who went on to become a successful costume jeweler for QVC, eventually walked away with $14 million, a ritzy penthouse inside the Plaza Hotel on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and more.
Following Donald, the Raising Trump author married twice more: in 1995, she married Riccardo Mazzucchelli, now 79, but the couple divorced in 1997. She most recently married Rossano Rubicondi in 2008, although the marriage was short-lived. Notably, Rossano died in October 2021 at the age of 49.
Ivana’s children also paid tribute to her on social media. Ivanka sent a heartfelt tribute, stating she was “heartbroken” on July 14. “Mom was intelligent, charming, passionate, and hilarious. In every action, she demonstrated strength, tenacity, and resolve. “She lived life to the fullest — never passing up an opportunity to laugh and dance,” the former presidential aide, 40, wrote beside many images of the two together. “I will miss her forever and will keep her memory alive in our hearts always,” she added.
Soon after her death was announced, Eric and Donald Jr. made a joint statement. “Our mother was an incredible woman — a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend. Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination. She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children and ten grandchildren.”
