Two bodega workers narrowly escaped a potentially fatal robbery that took a quick turn in their favor. The violent encounter could have ended tragically, but the workers were able to regain control of the situation and avoid any harm.
According to the authorities, in the early hours of September 5th, five individuals barged into Green Apple Deli situated on East Tremont Avenue.
Through a translator, the worker expressed that his sole focus was on self-defense and freeing himself from the grip around his neck. “Protecting himself was the only thing that occupied his mind,” he added.
He fought back and defended himself with all his might. He managed to break free from his attacker and engaged in a fierce struggle.
Once the moment arrives, the perpetrator attempts to escape alongside his partners in crime, leaving one individual behind.
As the footage shows, the individual is then apprehended by the store employees, who hold him down until law enforcement arrives on the scene.
In an exclusive interview with Eyewitness News, the deli owner praised the hard work and dedication of the employees.
He stated that defending oneself is a natural response, especially when someone goes behind them.
According to authorities, the individual responsible for applying the chokehold has been apprehended. Furthermore, another suspect voluntarily surrendered themselves to the police.
There is currently a $3,000 reward being offered for any information that could lead to the arrest of the individuals who are still at large.
