DOTHAN, Ala. – The Dothan Police Department is speaking out about the ruckus at Rip Hewes Stadium on Thursday night during the Carroll and Dothan High Football Game.
One incident occurred Thursday night on the home side concession stand area, said to Major Will Glover, where several people fled after someone said he had a gun – cops did not see or hear gunshots, and no one was wounded.
In addition, two students in the Dothan student section got into a brawl, which was promptly broken up by authorities, and the students were immediately ejected from the game.
They received a complaint near the end of the game about an argument and disruptive persons in the parking lot, but when they arrived, the folks had already left in their automobiles.
Major Will Glover says there were no injuries or firearms involved in any of these occurrences, but they investigate every report and take security at Rip Hewes seriously.
“We usually have around 20 officers working overtime, and out of those 20, they are the school resource officers, and what’s good about that is they know these kids personally, they know who they are and how their character is,” Major Glover adds.
Major Glover says it’s typical for arguments and fights to break out with large crowds during games, but the goal is to keep everyone safe so they can enjoy themselves.
