Breaking News: Shooting in Southeast DC hits charter school with bullets

Police have reported that Rocketship Rise Academy was targeted in a shooting that occurred late Monday night, with bullets striking the building.

Police were called to the 2300 block of Raynolds Place, SE in response to gunshots being heard in the area at approximately 1:00 a.m. on a Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, parents of Rocketship Rise Academy students received a letter informing them about the aftermath of a shooting that occurred in the vicinity of Woodland Terrace. The letter stated that the school’s windows were damaged, and other areas of the school were affected as well.

According to the school’s official statement, they have already placed repair orders for the windows that were damaged. In addition, they have coordinated with the DC Metropolitan Police to ensure that the building is safe for all the students.

The letter states, “We recognize the significance of keeping families informed during such incidents and collaborated closely with the DC Metropolitan Police to ensure the safety and welfare of our students and faculty.”

At present, the police have not identified any suspect in the case.
