Altemio Sanchez, the ‘Bike Path Killer,’ died while serving a life sentence

News 4 has confirmed that the man who was famously known as the “Bike Path Killer” in Buffalo, New York, passed away on Friday. In 2007, he admitted to the murders of three women.

At the Wende Correctional Facility in Alden, Altemio Sanchez, who is now 65 years old, is currently serving a sentence of 75 years to life at the maximum security prison.

In the region, Sanchez had earned the moniker of “Bike Path Rapist,” but unfortunately, he could not be prosecuted for those heinous crimes due to the statute of limitations. However, New York has recently amended the statute of limitations for rape and sexual assault cases, which is a step towards providing justice to the victims of such heinous crimes.

During his sentencing, Sanchez openly admitted to committing the crimes he was being charged with and expressed his acceptance of the consequences he would face. He acknowledged that he would be spending the rest of his life in prison and would never be able to experience freedom again. Sanchez recognized the severity of his actions and acknowledged that he had to pay for them.
