A 58-year-old Rainsville lady and a 63-year-old Rainsville man were murdered Tuesday night after their Jeep Cherokee collided with a street sweeper on I-459 near US 280.
The names of the victims have not been revealed because family members have not been notified, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
The male was a passenger and the woman was driving. They were pronounced dead at the site around 35 minutes after the collision.
According to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sgt. Jeremy Burkett, the crash happened around 8:02 p.m. Tuesday on I-459 South near the 18-mile marker.
According to the Rocky Ridge Fire Department, the crash necessitated “multiple extrications along with fatalities.”
For much of the night, the southbound lanes were restricted.
