NEW YORK – Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on Thursday that a man, aged 60, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for stabbing another man in a dispute over a parking spot in 2021. The incident was reported by 1010 WINS, and the individual in question has been held accountable for their actions. It is important to note that such acts of violence are not acceptable and will not be tolerated in any way. The legal system has taken its course, and justice has been served.
On May 10, Anthony Thomas, a resident of Laurelton, admitted to committing assault in the first degree and was subsequently sentenced to seven years of imprisonment. Further, he will be under five years of post-release supervision after completing his prison term.
On May 23, 2021, around 5 p.m., Gregory Williams, aged 49, parked his car on Mentone Avenue in Laurelton. However, before doing so, he moved some traffic cones that were placed in front of Thomas’ house.
As Thomas stepped out of his house, he noticed Williams’ car parked in a spot where it shouldn’t be. Annoyed, he raised his voice and told Williams that he couldn’t park there.
After Thomas refused to vacate the parking spot, he retreated to his residence and Williams rendezvoused with his companions at a gathering situated directly opposite to Thomas’ abode.
After a while, Thomas stormed out of his house and started yelling at Williams. The heated argument continued until one of Williams’ friends intervened and moved the car, bringing an end to the dispute.
Thomas had set up traffic cones to reserve a parking space in front of his home in Laurelton. However, the victim parked his car there, disregarding the cones. This resulted in a dispute between the two. Eventually, a friend of the victim moved the car to resolve the conflict over the parking space.
After the accident, Williams was left with severe internal injuries, including a collapsed lung and various wounds.
Upon investigation, authorities discovered a knife with blood stains inside Thomas’ dishwasher.
According to District Attorney Katz, the accused individual has been charged with violently assaulting a man with a knife in a dispute over a parking spot. Katz stressed that public parking spots are not owned by anyone and that such aggressive behavior will not be tolerated.
