Tuskegee native’s film directorial debut showing at Capri Theatre in Montgomery

Juel Taylor, a Tuskegee native and Montgomery Public Schools graduate, is directing his directorial debut, “They Cloned Tyrone,” at Montgomery’s Capri Theatre.

John Boyega, Teyonah Parris, and Jamie Foxx star in “They Cloned Tyrone.”

The movie was released July 14-17 at a few local theatres, including The Capri Theatre. You can buy tickets online or in person at these places:

The film will be released on Netflix worldwide on July 21. A soundtrack will be released the same day.

They Cloned Tyrone...

In a press release, “They Cloned Tyrone” tells the story of an unlikely trio that uncovers a government cloning conspiracy during an eerie series of events. A dope boy named Fontaine (Boyega) finds out he’s been cloned after being abducted by a mysterious government agency. Fontaine, along with his friend, Yo-Yo (Parris), and her pimp Slick Charles (Foxx), must team up to find out who is behind the cloning and why they chose Fontaine.

Taylor describes his movie as “A wild, funny, and suspenseful ride that will keep audiences guessing until the very end.”

Juel Taylor is a director, writer, and producer born in Tuskegee who has always loved arts. At St. Joseph Catholic School, he went to elementary school. After moving to Montgomery, he attended George Washington Carver Junior High School and LAMP High School, where he graduated with honours.

He graduated from the University of Florida with an Interdisciplinary Studies degree with a Film and Media emphasis. A year after he graduated, he got his master’s from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. NBC/Universal Studios selected him as one of five fellows from over 1,500 applicants.

After graduating, Taylor has worked in numerous aspects of film production. Some of his credits include:

  • “Creed II,” screenplay
  • “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” screenplay and story
  • “Young, Wild, Free,” 2023 Sundance Film Festival, screenplay and story
  • “Riotville (TV short),” writer
