At the “Rock the South” concert, 18-year-old Reid Watts was victim to an assault resulting in a broken nose and a concussion. William Vinson Jr, Chance Starling, who are both 20, and 21-year-old Zachary Taylor have been arrested and charged with second-degree assault, which is a felony. The news of the arrest has been met with approval from the victim’s mother, Kaci Howard, who has referred to the accused as “cowards”.
Howard took to Facebook to express her thoughts. Officer Nassetta also highlighted that social media played a critical role in the investigation, acting as a “huge factor” in identifying the alleged culprits. When probed about a possible motive behind the violent act, Nassetta was reluctant to divulge specifics but maintained that it was “absolutely pointless.”
He added, “There’s really nothing that can justify such a behaviour, especially since in this particular case something so trivial led to such a dramatic escalation of violence.” As of Wednesday morning, everyone charged with the assault – Vinson, Starling, and Taylor had posted bail.
If they are found guilty, they could face up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
