Dovetail Landing receives a visit from the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs

Members of the Alabama Department of Veteran Affairs and other state officials paid a visit to Dovetail Landing in Lincoln on Thursday. The purpose of the visit was to check on the progress of the Dovetail Project and to show support for the men and women involved in the project. The VA leaders expressed their appreciation for the hard work put in by the participants and wanted to assure them that they have their full support.

Commissioner Kent Davis of the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs takes on the responsibility of ensuring that veterans in Alabama have access to all the necessary resources to address any challenges they may encounter. He is committed to equipping them with the tools and resources they need to overcome any obstacles.

Director Holmes stated that they aim to provide several therapeutic programs for those who are leaving the military, still in active duty as a veteran, or in need of recovery and returning to their families.

Commissioner Davis believes that visits like the one organized by Dovetail leaders are essential to ensure that our returning veterans receive the care they deserve. He describes it as a reverse boot camp for veterans, which highlights the importance of providing personalized support to those who have served our country.

Davis emphasized the significance of all partners comprehending their roles in assisting veterans in the public-private partnership. He praised the exchange of information and acknowledged the value of learning more about Dovetail Landing. According to Davis, Dovetail Landing represents the quintessential tip of the spear approach, actively working in the community to support veterans.

Commissioner Davis emphasizes the importance of finding the right partnership to address the high suicide rate among veterans in the state.

Davis expressed his concern regarding the stigma surrounding veterans and their reluctance to seek assistance. He emphasized the need for a partnership that connects veterans with the resources that can cater to their unique needs. Davis hopes to expand these resources in the future to better support veterans.

According to Robert Holmes, although the Dovetail Landing facilities may not be fully completed, they are already operational and available to assist veterans throughout the state of Alabama.
