Brigadier General promotion for the 20th Special Forces group commander

On May 31, Brigadier General Matthew Valas, who serves as the commander of NATO headquarters in Sarajevo, was promoted from colonel to brigadier general at the Alabama National Guard Joint Force Headquarters.

Valas was recently honored by Gov. Kay Ivey for his commendable service in the Alabama National Guard. During the ceremony, Ivey highlighted the crucial role that the Alabama National Guard plays in the state’s security. Brig. Gen. David Pritchett, the Alabama National Guard Adjutant General, also praised Valas for his outstanding character and strong work ethic.

During his promotion, Valas expressed his gratitude towards all the attendees for their contribution to his career advancement. He was pinned by his wife, Abby Valas, and currently resides in Trussville, Alabama, with their three children – Reese, Gray, and Elin.
