At least 40 shots fired in Birmingham’s Ensley community, resulting in 3 people wounded

Three people were shot in Birmingham overnight, and an investigation is currently underway.

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. when Shot Spotter, the city’s gunfire detection system, recorded at least 40 rounds fired in the 1600 Block of 48th Street in Ensley.

Shortly after, a man arrived at Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Station 15 in a private vehicle, having sustained a gunshot wound.

The victim was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Two more men were discovered with gunshot wounds at 10:33 p.m. in the 1500 Block of 2nd Court West.

Both victims were transported to the hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, and their injuries were not life-threatening, according to Sgt. LaQuitta Wade.

According to the preliminary investigation, all three victims were shot in the 1600 Block of 48th Street.

No arrests have been made at this time.
