Alabama schools closed Aug. 7: Anticipated storm triggers early dismissals

ALA (MBS) – A few school systems in northern Alabama have announced closures in anticipation of potential storms later today.

DeKalb County EMA reports that DeKalb County and Fort Payne City Schools will be dismissing students at 12:45 p.m. today due to potential severe storms.

As per the National Weather Service, there might be storms in the central region of the state between 2 and 8 p.m. Later, the severe weather is expected to shift towards the southeastern part of the state and could last from 6 to 11 p.m.

The unstable atmosphere coupled with upper-level systems generating Mesoscale Convective Systems (MCS) is expected to result in severe weather across some parts of the state starting today and persisting through Wednesday. There is a possibility that this severe weather may continue until Thursday or even Saturday.
