7-year-old shot and killed after getting access to handgun in Prattville

PRATTVILLE (MBS) – A 7-year-old boy died in Prattville on Sunday morning from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The death happened at an apartment complex in east Prattville, according to Police Chief Mark Thompson. The boy obtained a gun of his own. The boy’s name has not been disclosed.

Thompson stated that the investigation is ongoing and that the matter will be considered by a future session of the Autauga County Grand Jury.

“We present all deaths of children to the grand jury,” he explained. “During the investigation, we will try to figure out who owned the gun and how the child obtained it.”
