MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. — The state of Alabama. In a story from AL Reporter, an interesting fact was brought up: in 2022, Alabama had more than 12,000 reports of elder abuse. A guy from Alabama was arrested around August 10, 2023, for something that happened on August 7, 2023.
Court records say that a guy from Hartselle hit his elderly mother with a shovel and then tied her to a riding lawn mower and dragged her behind it.
Phillip Glenn Brennan, age 29, was charged with second-degree elder abuse and third-degree domestic violence after an incident that happened on Monday, August 7. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) and court papers described what happened.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said that police went to a home on Tapscott Road in Hartselle after a resident called 911 using a home alarm system. An affidavit shared deeper details on the alleged events of that day.
When MCSO Deputies arrived, they said they found a woman with “visible marks on her, as well as grass stains on her clothes, and leaves in her hair.” A court record says there were “abrasions and bruising on her right ankle.”
Brennan got angry with his mother at some point and chose to drag her 50–75 yards across the yard with the family’s lawn mower. His mother thinks that he went crazy and declined to receive any medical assistance on the scene.
His bond was set at $20,300.
