A mental health worker has been charged with smuggling narcotics into an Alabama prison

BESSEMER, Ala. – This week, the Alabama Department of Corrections detained a mental health worker at Donaldson Correctional Facility.

Corrections officers say they searched Jasmonique Ware on Thursday and discovered two parcels and a plastic bag containing an unknown substance beneath the food in her bag. The parcels contained five clear bags of marijuana and two clear bags of probable methamphetamine, according to ADOC.

Ware was then charged with methamphetamine trafficking, illegal marijuana possession, and promoting prison contraband. She was arrested and brought to the Jefferson County jail.

According to officials, the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.

Ware works for YesCare, the state jail system’s healthcare supplier, according to ASOC.
