A felony from Binghamton has been charged with stealing pickup trucks and a tractor in Darien

A Binghamton man with a history of felony convictions is accused of stealing two pickup trucks and a tractor in Darien three days ago.

The automobiles were all retrieved.

Larry L. Keene, 52, is accused of:

  • Attempted second-degree burglary, a Class D felony;
  • Third-degree burglary, a Class D felony;
  • Third-degree grand larceny, a Class D felony;
  • Second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony;
  • Third-degree criminal possession of stolen property is a Class D felony.

Recently, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of burglary and thefts, with subsequent reports coming in on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the Sheriff’s Office did not disclose the location of the thefts.

However, they did locate one of the pickup trucks that had been hauling a trailer, parked roadside on Tuesday in an undisclosed location in the Town of Darien.

The other pickup truck was spotted on Route 20 in the Town of Darien, travelling eastbound on Wednesday. Patrols, including deputies, troopers, and a Sheriff’s investigator, located the pickup truck on Route 20 in Pavilion.

The person operating the truck was identified as Keene, who was taken into custody without incident and transported to jail for arraignment.

Investigators allege that Keene unlawfully entered multiple buildings on a residential property, whose location was not disclosed, in the Town of Darien. He attempted to enter the residence and stole a tractor and other items from inside a barn. Keene was arraigned and jailed without bail due to his two prior felony convictions.

Following his arrest, the tractor was located in an undisclosed location in the Town of Darien. Members of the public, along with road patrol units and troopers, assisted Sheriff’s investigators in locating Keene and the property.

In August 2019, Keene was convicted of burglary in the third degree, a Class D felony, in Broome County and released on parole in June 2021.

Currently, there are no other prison terms listed for Keene in the state database.
