13-Year-Old Girl Shot While Traveling in Vehicle on Center Point Parkway

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Around 10:15 p.m. on July 4, deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were called to investigate a shooting in the 1200 block of Center Point Parkway.

Police say that reports say a dark or black-coloured car opened fire on another car going in the same way. At least one of the shots hit a person inside, a 13-year-old girl. The girl was taken to Children’s Hospital, and as of the last time we heard, her status was stable.

At least two people were thought to be in the suspect car.

According to police, no one is currently detained.

The mayor of Center Point, Bobby Scott, says he heard this could be a case of road rage. The Sheriff’s Office has not yet been able to confirm this, though.

The mayor says that this isn’t normal for his town and that it shows how important it is to solve problems. He also asks anyone who knows something to speak up.

“This could happen to anybody. This could have been anybody’s family coming up the Parkway. They were coming from viewing fireworks and enjoying family time. So this could be anybody’s family inside, or outside the city. We as a society, as a whole, have to look out for each other.”

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are looking into it. Please call the police at 205-325-1450 (option 2) if you have any information or video that could help. You can also call CrimeStoppers at 205-254-7777 to give an anonymous tip.
