13-year-old child injured in lightning strike at Alabama ballpark

A lightning strike at a ballpark in Vance injured a child, who is now getting medical care.

Brian Greene, the captain of the fire protection district, said it happened around noon on Saturday at Vance Ballpark near Vance Town Hall.

“It was just a 13-year-old kid standing too close to a light pole when a storm came through,” he said.

The child was taken to Birmingham, Alabama, to Children’s of Alabama. Monday morning, there was no information about how the child was doing.
