When an 8-year-old boy’s rusty bike breaks down, an Alabama police officer steps up: ‘Ultimate Act of Kindness’

The bike that Wyatt White had was already on its last legs and looked like a rusty hand-me-down.

As he was cruising through his Alabama neighborhood on a Saturday, the 8-year-old boy’s bike experienced a mishap when its front wheel, which was already bent, suddenly came off.

While wrapping up a call at Wyatt’s housing project, Officer Tim Hale of the Double Springs Police noticed a young boy attempting to fix his overturned bike on the road. Without hesitation, Officer Hale pulled over in his cruiser to lend a hand.

As he was driving through Double Springs, a small town located around 75 miles southwest of Huntsville, Hale recognized a young boy he had known for years through his police work. Without hesitation, he pulled over and asked the boy, “Bud, you need some help?” This simple act of kindness demonstrates the compassion and willingness to serve that Hale possesses.

According to Hale, they managed to get the wheel back on, but it just didn’t want to stay in place. Despite their efforts, they were only able to get it back on as best as they could.

Hale recounted that Wyatt had simply shrugged and stated, “It is what it is,” showing off his charming personality before departing from the scene.

Hale expressed his concern for the boy’s safety. He said, “I am worried that the front tire might come off again, and it could lead to a disastrous outcome.”

“I found it too risky for myself. However, I strongly felt that we have been blessed by the Almighty to extend a helping hand to someone in need.”

Hale reached out to his wife and requested her to visit the Walmart which was 30 minutes away, to pick a bike for their son Wyatt. Wyatt’s father had passed away four months ago due to a heart attack, shortly after his bike was stolen.

After a few hours, Hale arrived back at Wyatt’s residence in his Chevy Tahoe cruiser. He brought along a brand-new blue bicycle for the young boy, which sparkled in the sunlight.

According to Hale, the recipient was incredibly grateful and overjoyed. She mentioned that he had an infectious smile that lit up the room.

Wyatt was filled with amazement as he hopped on the bike and rode off. Unbeknownst to Hale, his grateful mother captured this heartwarming moment on video from their house. Later, she shared the video on Facebook for others to enjoy.

Kim White was overwhelmed with emotions when she saw it. Tears streamed down her face as she was filled with warmth in her heart. “That was the ultimate act of kindness,” she shared with The Messenger.

Hale expressed to Wyatt’s mother that every young boy deserves a brand-new bicycle.

As she spoke, she emphasized how frequently the media focuses on negative stories about law enforcement officers. However, she also highlighted that there are many good cops out there, and Tim Hale is undoubtedly one of them.

As a law enforcement officer with 13 years of experience under his belt, Hale firmly believes in the importance of serving others. For him, it’s not just a job, but a passion. He takes great pride in helping those in need and finds satisfaction in making a positive impact on the community he serves.

Hale expressed her joy, saying, “It made my day.” She added that she was just as thrilled as the person she was referring to.

According to him, he was simply following the teachings of the Bible, which emphasize the importance of helping others. “My only intention was to assist Wyatt,” he explained.
