Last June, an investigation was launched by police in Garfield after they notified surrounding jurisdictions of a white Honda Civic that was involved in catalytic converter thefts. According to Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller, Randy Severino of Bayonne was at the center of this investigation.
While on Route 3 East, Secaucus Police Officer Jason Mitchell noticed a vehicle exceeding speeds of 100 miles per hour. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle had been stolen from Newark. Unfortunately, the driver failed to comply with the police’s orders to stop, leading to a vehicle chase. The pursuit had to be terminated as the vehicle disappeared from sight in Jersey City.
According to the police, after a thorough investigation, it was discovered that Severino had stolen a significant number of catalytic converters from five different businesses in Secaucus earlier that same night.
Arrest warrants were issued for Severino on Thursday, September 14th, for the crimes mentioned. Egan, along with Detective Sgt. Giacomo Sallustio from Secaucus police, FBI agents, Bayonne police officers, and officials from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, executed the arrest.
Upon arriving at his house, Severino exited a Toyota Camry which was later determined to have been stolen from Jersey City near his residence. Shortly after, Severino left his house, leading to a brief chase on foot before he was apprehended. During his arrest, law enforcement officers found a loaded 9mm Taurus Millennium semi-automatic pistol in his possession.
Severino faced a litany of charges, including theft, criminal mischief, eluding, weapon possession, and receiving stolen property. As a result, he was detained in the Hudson County Jail.
