ERIE COUNTY, NY – On Monday, State Supreme Court Justice Deborah Haendiges sentenced Sayed Nasir, a Depew resident aged 40, to 25 years to life in prison.
The verdict came as a result of a crime committed on November 20, 2021, when Nasir went to his ex-wife Nazeefa D. Tahir’s residence in violation of a protection order and stabbed her multiple times, leading to her death.
The tragic incident occurred while preparations were underway for their child’s birthday party. After a five-day trial, a jury delivered the verdict on June 9. Nasir’s history includes previous convictions related to domestic violence, leading to a no-contact order that lasts until October 2026.
The victim’s family, including their child, is now protected by a new protection order against Nasir, which will be in effect until 2123.
