NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. — A man from Lockport has been found guilty of murdering a 28-year-old woman and will serve 45 years to life in state prison.
Atrel M. Hudson, aged 29, was convicted in June by a jury for the murder of Mariah Wilson in her Niagara Falls apartment. On September 4, 2020, Hudson had broken into her apartment.
He had also been convicted by a separate jury for robbing a local 7-11 at gunpoint in Niagara Falls, also in September 2020, according to a news release.
The judge sentenced him to 25 years to life for the murder and another 20 years for the robbery, with both to be served consecutively.
District attorney Brain D. Seaman released a statement regarding the sentence, saying that this was a long and drawn-out ordeal for Mariah’s children and family.
The Niagara Falls Police Department conducted a thorough investigation, and the Niagara County Forensic Lab conducted testing before an indictment could be obtained.
During this time, the defendant was in jail on a parole violation, but the family was not aware of this. They had to wait a long time as the case proceeded to trial.
Today, Mariah’s family can leave court knowing that their beloved family member’s killer will be in prison, hopefully for the rest of his life.
Seaman added that a person who could commit such an act towards a young mother while her children listened from the next room should never be allowed to be free again.
