Identity of man shot by police in Southeast DC revealed

Mocobizscene-  The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced that they have identified the individual who was shot by police on February 9th. According to reports, the man pulled out a firearm and appeared to discharge it, prompting the officers to take action.

Around 6:20 p.m., the police were conducting a patrol as part of Operation THRIVE1. During their patrol, they came across a man in a courtyard located in the 1400 block of Bangor Street in Southeast. The officers identified themselves and approached the man, attempting to engage in conversation.

The man quickly made his escape to a nearby alley. The man was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The police have arrested 35-year-old Kenneth Coleman from Southeast, D.C. He is facing charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of unregistered ammunition.

The police found Coleman’s weapon at the crime scene. The officers involved in the incident have been put on administrative leave, in line with MPD policy. They were equipped with body-worn cameras during the incident, and the footage will be made public as mandated by D.C. law.
