Grand jury indicts Jersey City man for killing ‘ex’ and dumping body in woods

Mocobizscene- A grand jury on Tuesday indicted a man from Jersey City who had a history of violence on charges that he murdered his ex-girlfriend, who was also the mother of two of their children, and dumped her corpse in a wooded area following a night out the previous year.

Gregory Mallard, 35, is charged in the indictment regarding the demise of Norelis Mendoza, 32, of Lindenwold. Specifically, he is accused of murder, unlawful possession of a weapon (vehicle), unlawful possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (vehicle), failure to dispose of human remains as required by law, desecration of human remains, and obstruction and tampering with physical evidence.

The post-indictment arraignment of Mallard is currently expected to take place on Monday.

On May 14, last year, Mother’s Day, at 4:31 a.m., surveillance footage from Burma Road in Jersey City captured Mallard striking Mendoza, a native of Jersey City, twice with a Dodge Ram pickup truck before placing her corpse in the passenger side of the vehicle. The complaint stated that additional video footage from Kennedy Boulevard captured the pickup vehicle in the vicinity of the rail road parallel to Route 440 South between 5:22 and 5:43 a.m.

Three days later, on May 17, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department, Bayonne Police Department, and New Jersey State Police, discovered Mendoza’s body off Route 440 near the Jersey City border.

Mallard was convicted of manslaughter in 2008 and subsequently served a decade in prison, as stated in electronic court records and by the state Department of Corrections. Mallard, an alleged 52 Hoover Street Crips gang member, was incarcerated in a state penitentiary for the 2008 murder of Lawrence Robertson, from February 20, 2009 to June 7, 2020.

According to family members, Mendoza and Mallard were estranged, and Mendoza had filed a restraining order against Mallard at some point. The criminal complaint stated that Mallard, the father of Mendoza’s 2- and 4-year-old daughters, “has a history of stalking, harassment, or terroristic threats (against any victim).”

Mallard allegedly struck Mendoza twice with the pickup truck at 4:20 a.m. on May 14, near Liberty State Park, after the victim had completed an evening that included an excursion to the American Dream mall, drinks at a bar in Jersey City, and an early morning meal at McDonald’s on Communipaw Avenue. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Burma Road and Thomas McGovern Avenue, near Liberty State Park, according to the complaint.
