Lafayette woman dies in stolen police car crash

Mocobizscene- Police say a woman from Lafayette was killed when she stole a police car and rammed it in LaPorte County. Friday morning, Indiana State Police report that 21-year-old Melissa L. Collins escaped her handcuffs and hijacked a police cruiser.

The squad car was ultimately discovered submerged in a ditch in the vicinity of La Crosse County Roads 875 West and 2100 South, where officers had lost sight of it.

Collins was discovered deceased within the vehicle. According to the evidence, she was involved in an accident subsequent to traversing railroad tracks at an exceptionally high velocity. The manner and cause of her demise are contingent upon the results of the autopsy.
