Mocobizscene- This Thursday (Feb. 1), the Hollywood Walk of Fame will be honoring New Orleans-born actor Garrett Morris by dedicating its 2,771st star to him.
Morris will be honored with a star in the television category. Emcee Steve Nissen, actress Tichina Arnold, and producer Oz Scott are scheduled to speak at the ceremony. Morris has been a familiar face on television screens since the 1970s, and he can proudly claim the title of being an original member of the Saturday Night Live cast.
Morris had consistent roles in popular shows like The Jeffersons, Differ’rent Strokes, Hill Street Blues, 227, and Roc. He even had a cameo in the 1976 box office hit Car Wash, alongside Richard Pryor. Before his television career, Morris enjoyed a successful 17-year stint as a singer and arranger, gracing the stage of numerous off-Broadway plays.
Morris, a native of Gert Town, had a remarkable journey from his humble beginnings to becoming a graduate of Dillard University in 1958 and the prestigious Juilliard School of Music.
