Santa Cruz, California — Authorities claimed that a driver died when her car crashed on Chula Vista’s Interstate 805 on Saturday.
A 60-year-old Anaheim resident was driving south on I-805, north of East Naples Street, at roughly 10:25 a.m., when she lost control of the car for an unidentified reason, according to the California Highway Patrol. According to CHP, the Nissan struck a concrete wall before toppling over into East Naples Street. The woman was declared dead at the scene after suffering fatal injuries. Her passenger, an Anaheim resident in his 60s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office is awaiting a toxicology testing to ascertain whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
At this point, the identify of the deceased woman is being kept confidential. While the CHP examined the crash scene, East Naples Street was temporarily closed. It’s still unclear what caused the crash and what conditions preceded the tragedy.
