Mocobizscene- Five individuals face retail theft and burglary charges after being accused of stealing from businesses in suburban areas within the past four days.
On Monday, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced the felony charges. One of the suspects is also being charged with possessing burglary tools.
Juan Andres Gomez Hernandez, a 24-year-old resident of Chicago, has been apprehended for allegedly shoplifting approximately $304 worth of clothing from the JC Penny store in Lombard. The incident occurred on December 14th at the store’s location at 175 Yorktown. In custody, Hernandez is scheduled to appear in court on January 8th.
Sergio Rojas Jaimes, a 37-year-old resident of West Chicago, along with Juan Sebastian Rojas Jaimes, a 25-year-old resident of Niles, and Shirley Vanessa Oviedo-Ortiz, a 30-year-old resident of Niles, have been accused of stealing a total of 29 clothing items from the Macy’s store in Oak Brook. The incident occurred on December 14th, and the stolen merchandise was estimated to be worth $1,458.
According to prosecutors, the three individuals placed the items in a stroller with a baby and tried to leave the store without paying. The suspects were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court on January 8th.
Jordan Antonio Mezamunoz, a 25-year-old individual with no known address, allegedly committed the theft of approximately $1,039 worth of men’s clothing from Macy’s in Oak Brook on December 17. According to prosecutors, Mezamunoz was apprehended with a magnet to remove security devices and wire cutters. He is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 8.
“The arrest of these defendants serves as a clear and strong message from the law enforcement authorities in DuPage County that they are actively present and vigilant during this holiday season. Anyone who engages in theft from our establishments will swiftly face arrest, charges, and prosecution,” stated Berlin.
