Adolescent Arrested for Involvement in ‘Swatting’ Incidents Targeting OC Synagogues

Mocobizscene- Federal authorities announced on Wednesday that they have apprehended a juvenile suspect in connection with the “swatting” attacks that targeted synagogues in Tustin and Fullerton.

According to the FBI, the suspect was arrested on Tuesday morning by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. The exact location of the arrest was not disclosed and the juvenile suspect remains unidentified due to their age.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is expected to bring charges against the juvenile at the state level for their involvement in two alleged swatting incidents. Swatting incidents involve making false reports of crimes with the intention of eliciting a significant response from law enforcement.

According to federal officials, the local suspect was involved in a larger online swatting ring.

The suspected swatting network’s server has been taken down following an investigation by the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Working in collaboration with law enforcement agencies in Southern California and New York, the task force gathered evidence that led to the identification of the individual believed to be responsible for creating the network.

According to a statement from the FBI, the false swatting threats made in this case had a detrimental effect on law enforcement resources and caused financial harm to local communities. It has been proven that making false threats can lead to distress for victims and result in physical harm to first responders or other individuals involved.
