Bride Cancels Wedding, Donates $15,000 Reception To Special Needs Charity

A California woman had to cancel her wedding, but she still found a way to put her reception to good use! Just a fortnight before her wedding, scheduled for Saturday, the bride discovered something about her fiancé that prompted her to cancel their upcoming marriage, according to a report by NBC Bay Area.

The cancellation of the ceremony only added to their worries, especially since they had already paid $15,000 for the nonrefundable wedding reception. The bride, not wanting the party to go to waste, made the decision that someone should still have the opportunity to enjoy it.

She found a solution by donating the celebration to Parents Helping Parents (PHP), a nonprofit based in San Jose. PHP offers support to individuals with special needs and their families. The donation, which surprised PHP, had previously assisted the bride’s family. PHP’s executive director, Maria Daane, described the contribution as “extraordinary.”

Daane told NBC Bay Area that he had never come across anyone who called a nonprofit organization and expressed their desire to donate a $15,000 party to them within a two-week timeframe. In disbelief, she expressed, “This is truly unprecedented. I cannot fathom witnessing such an event in my entire professional journey.”

The nonprofit organization invited the families it supports to a special event. By the time Saturday arrived, 100 people had confirmed their attendance at the event, which took place at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Gilroy, according to NBC Bay Area.

The club’s ballroom was filled with children, families, caretakers, and PHP staff who gathered to celebrate and enjoy the party. They delighted in the music, food, and other generous donations provided by the bride.

The guests were seen dancing to the popular song “Cha Cha Slide” and taking photos in a photo booth, all while dressed in formalwear and festive sweaters. The night was made even more magical with a spectacular fireworks display.

Daane expressed her excitement about having an event for families, saying she was “just thrilled.” Liz Schwartz, a guest who attended the event with her daughter, shared this sentiment with NBC Bay Area.

“It’s truly amazing to be a part of this inclusive celebration that honors the essence of our community,” Schwartz expressed with delight.
