A man in O’Fallon, Missouri, was killed on Sunday in what authorities are referring to as an “officer-involved shooting.”
The incident occurred on a residential street near Royal Oaks Drive in O’Fallon. It remains uncertain whether the man was shot by the police or if he inflicted the gunshot wound upon himself.
Sergeant Bryan Harr from the O’Fallon police department stated that officers were dispatched to a report of someone firing shots at the clock tower located at O’Fallon City Hall on Main Street. Our First Alert 4 crew present at the scene observed noticeable damage to the clock tower.
According to Harr, officers spotted a car that matched the suspect’s description and began chasing it.
“This is currently an ongoing investigation,” Harr stated. “At this time, I can confirm that the suspect has been found deceased.”
According to Harr, the investigation is still ongoing to determine whether officers fired at the man or if the man shot at the officers. This clarification comes after earlier statements indicating that officers had been shot at.
Harr acknowledged that the situation at hand is quite unusual, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the safety of citizens.
Fortunately, there were no injuries sustained by the officers involved in the shooting, and there have been no reports of any other individuals being injured.
The investigation is being taken over by the St. Charles Critical Response Team.
