A man armed with a knife was apprehended in Midtown Manhattan on Sunday morning after attempting to forcefully take his mother to a nearby ATM, threatening to harm her, according to sources and witnesses who spoke to The Post.
A man, whose identity was not immediately disclosed by the police, was apprehended by officers at approximately 8:30 a.m. on West 43rd Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues. This came after a dog walker witnessed the unsettling incident and promptly dialed 911.
Canerday explained that she asked if everything was okay because she didn’t initially notice that he had a knife, despite her attempts to resist.
According to her account, she recalls the moment he abruptly commanded her to cease speaking, threatening her life. As they passed by, she caught sight of the knife, prompting her to signal for assistance from a bystander nearby. She then quickly dialed 911 to report the unfolding situation.
During the process of apprehending the man, two police officers sustained injuries. One officer was slashed in the hand while disarming him of the knife, while the other officer suffered a knee injury.
The suspect, dressed in a peculiar red and blue body suit resembling a jester’s attire, was photographed at the scene. They were seen being handcuffed and placed on a stretcher before being transported into an ambulance nearby.
A woman who seems to be the victim is talking to a police officer. According to sources, the suspect came out of a building while tightly gripping his mother’s hair. He startled the onlookers by yelling at them to keep their distance.The NYPD has stated that charges are pending.
