Police Say Son Who Was Babysitting Half-Brother Hours Before Triple Stabbing In NYC Was ‘Hearing Voices’

During a news briefing, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny revealed that Jayden Rivera, an upstate college student who is currently in custody at the psychiatric ward of Westchester Medical Center, spontaneously confessed to medical staff that he had committed a grave crime and was responsible for taking someone’s life.

Upon his return home, he reiterated to his mother his distressing experience of hearing voices and expressed his fears that Mr. Rivera and Ms. Peralta posed a threat to him.

While their dad and his girlfriend were out on a “paint and sip” date to mend their relationship, the teenager took on the responsibility of babysitting little Kayden on Saturday night.

According to Kenny, there were two instances during the night when neighbors heard a person in the hallway loudly reciting the Lord’s Prayer in Spanish. Additionally, around 2 a.m. on Sunday, a man and a woman were heard screaming.

At the scene, Kenny stated that the police found a small kitchen knife and a dented pot. According to police sources, the teenager, covered in blood, eventually arrived at his mother’s apartment in the Bronx, prompting her to contact 911 immediately.

The individual was transported by EMS to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. As of Tuesday, it was reported that the person was still at the hospital, but sources indicated that they would likely be transferred to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.

The family of the deceased toddler, Miguel Rivera, 60, expressed shock and disbelief over the tragic incident. According to Miguel, there were no visible signs of trouble within the family, and Jonathan Rivera, the father of four, including the now suspected eldest son, never showed any favoritism towards his children.

Jayden is not someone who harbors jealousy, according to the individual interviewed by The Post. The person shared that they have never witnessed Jonathan showing favouritism towards anyone. It is clear that no one takes sides in this situation.

“During the Thanksgiving celebration last year, we had the pleasure of Jayden’s company. He was actively engaged in playing and having a wonderful time.”

The grandfather who was mourning the loss of his youngest grandson expressed his deep sorrow, saying, “My heart is shattered for my little one.”

“This is not supposed to happen,” he exclaimed, his voice filled with disbelief. “When they first broke the news to me, it felt like something out of a movie. But now, it’s all too real.”

According to a family friend, Jonathan Rivera and Peralta had broken up around a year ago but had been working on reconciling their relationship in recent months. They were even on a date night at a “paint and sip” party the night before their tragic deaths.

According to Eusebio Baez, who has been acquainted with Rivera for two decades, the devoted father of four worked tirelessly, holding down two jobs to provide his son Kayden with the best. One of his jobs included being a janitor at Kayden’s school, demonstrating his commitment to ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable environment for his beloved child.

Jayden Rivera, a student at SUNY Oswego, earned a scholarship to the state school. Jonathan, Jayden’s father, also has two older daughters who reside in Connecticut.

Baez reminisced about his old friend’s affection for Kayden and the boy’s mother, emphasizing that “he had a deep love for that woman.”

Baez expressed her admiration for the man, describing him as a kind-hearted individual with a genuine and selfless nature. She emphasized that despite not having much in terms of material possessions or resources, he dedicated himself completely to his children, making countless sacrifices for their well-being.
