Houston police have confirmed that a woman who sustained critical injuries in a crash on Katy Freeway the night before Thanksgiving has tragically passed away.
According to Houston police, a 25-year-old woman was operating a Hyundai and made an unsafe lane change, cutting off an 18-wheeler. As a result, the driver of the 18-wheeler collided with her vehicle, causing both vehicles to crash into the HOV lane. The woman was taken to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in critical condition, according to officials. However, despite the efforts of doctors, she was pronounced dead on Friday.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, who is 61 years old, did not suffer any injuries, according to the police. They stayed at the scene to answer questions and upon investigation, it was determined that they were not under the influence of any substances.
As the authorities work to verify the woman’s identity, they are also continuing their investigation.
