Police have charged a man from Las Vegas with murder after he confessed to killing a man and claimed that he had “killed that alien”.
On November 9th, the occurrence took place in the 400 block of South 10th Street. Police were informed by witnesses that they had heard roughly five gunshots and had seen a Black man carrying a firearm. The witnesses described the individual as being between the ages of 30 to 40, with dreadlocks and tattoos on his face.
According to police reports, a witness claimed that while he was sitting in his vehicle at the Las Vegas Academy of Arts theatre building, he heard gunshots and his vehicle was hit. The building, which was occupied by students and faculty at the time, also had people who heard the shots.
According to the report, a plain-clothes detective spotted Major Sanford around 20 minutes after the initial 911 call. The detective noticed that Sanford matched the description of the suspect and saw him entering and exiting an apartment. Sanford was apprehended shortly thereafter. Upon searching Sanford’s possession, police found a bag containing a firearm. Sanford allegedly confessed to the officers that he had “killed that alien.”
In his interview with investigators, Sanford revealed that he resided in the apartment with his mother and Awa. He referred to Awa as an alien because they were not biological siblings, although Awa desired to be. Sanford recounted a physical altercation with Awa, alleging that Awa attempted to steal his marijuana and firearm.
Sanford has been charged with a range of offenses, including open murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, possessing a firearm as a prohibited person, and assault. A court date has been set for December 5 for his next appearance.
